Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prepare for therapy?

Prior to our first appointment, take a few moments to reflect on your primary concerns, what you’d like to work on, and your goals for therapy. We also encourage you to bring any questions you have for your therapist to help determine if we are the right fit for you.

During your initial consultation call, we’ll discuss your concerns and explore the services we offer to support you. We’ll also talk through your expectations and introduce the Lightwell Mental Health and Wellness approach to care.

What should I expect?

If we decide to move forward together, we’ll start by booking an intake appointment.

This initial session focuses on gathering background information about why you're seeking therapy, as well as a brief history of the life experiences shaping your current challenges. We’ll also begin discussing your goals and how we can measure your progress over time.

Following the intake, therapy sessions will be scheduled based on your unique needs and availability. From there, our work will focus on attaining the goals you’ve set, easing symptoms like anxiety or depression, and supporting you as you build meaningful change in your daily life.

What should I expect after my therapy session?

Therapy is meaningful, but hard work.

After a session, you may feel tired or emotionally drained. We encourage you to build buffer time into your schedule before and after your appointments—giving yourself space to ground yourself, process the session, and digest the work you’ve done.

We will also dedicate time during your sessions to talk through personalized self-care strategies, ensuring you feel supported long after our call ends.

How do I get the most out of therapy?

This is your time, and we want you to get the absolute most out of the space you’ve created for your care.

Because therapy is only a small portion of your week, you can expect occasional "homework" between sessions to help you practice and build upon the skills you’re learning. To get the greatest benefit from your sessions, we encourage you to:

  • Build an open connection: Work with a therapist you feel comfortable with, and share as openly and honestly as feels safe for you.

  • Patience with the process: Give yourself grace—meaningful growth takes time, so try not to expect instant results.

  • Put skills into practice: Consistently complete your out-of-session activities to reinforce your progress.

  • Communicate freely: If you ever feel therapy isn't working or your needs change, please let us know so we can adjust our approach together.

What makes us different?

We could give you dozens of reasons why Lightwell Mental Health and Wellness is unique, but it really comes down to one core belief: we choose to do therapy differently.

To us, therapy extends far beyond the time we spend together in session. It’s about helping you build a strong support system outside of our calls, and equipping you with practical, real-world tools to navigate whatever life throws your way.

We are honest, direct, and deeply supportive. Our goal is to help you achieve your goals so you can move forward—not keep you in therapy forever.

Will Lightwell be the right fit for you? We certainly hope so. But if we’re not, we are fully dedicated to helping you connect with a therapist who is.

How will I billed?

If you are paying out-of-pocket, your session fee will be charged to your preferred payment method within 48 hours of your appointment.

If you are using insurance, we will submit the claim directly to your provider and process any remaining copay or deductible according to your plan's terms.
